Join us as a Volunteer

Sometimes it may seem that there are only a few of us that make up the Palatine 50 Plus Computer Learning Center. Obviously, the most visible volunteers are the ones you meet during a class either teaching or coaching. In reality, there are lots of volunteers who work behind the scenes to put the courses together. And we need them all!

Our volunteers are not all computer engineers (but there are a few of us) or retired teachers (and there are a few of those too). Our volunteers do however, have one characteristic in common and that is a desire to help other seniors learn about computers and technology!

So, even if you aren't comfortable standing in front of a group of Seniors teaching, but you would like to help our group in many other ways, then consider joining us!

Volunteers are needed to prepare courses, assemble course handouts and binders, setup and help with course registrations, help with back office administrative tasks, write content for our web site, and many other necessary tasks. The time commitment can vary widely and is controlled by you.

The process of joining our volunteer ranks is simple.

  • Start with a desire to join
  • Talk to some of our volunteer instructors and coaches after one of our courses that you have taken
  • Print out and fill out a volunteer application form
  • Join us during one of our regular monthly volunteer meetings. The date and time is announced on the home page of our (this) web site.
  • If you do submit your volunteer application, then two of our board members will interview you. Don't worry, you can't fail an interview, but we do desire to know what you are interested in doing and what you are capable of doing so that we get you involved appropriately.
  • The Board of Directors will formally accept your application at the next scheduled Board Meeting (also announced on our home page).
  • You are then a member of our volunteer group!
